The Elves are a race land-locked by ice, driven to xenophobia and over-patriotism from half-a-millenium of isolation. They’ve struggled to survive as an independent nation after their homeland of Telumekoro was cut off from the rest of the world. Telumekoro now teeters on the edge of being a police state, with constant propaganda and guards stationed at every exit of the cities, allowing no one to leave Telumekoro without the “proper papers”, as they say.
Telumekoro, an island much further north than any other, gets few visitors since the drastic weather changes, nearly five-hundred years ago. When the waters around Telumekoro froze, their ships were land-locked. Trade routes were impossible to traverse. The Talumari all either fled or froze in their submersed cities.
The Elves were cut off from the rest of the world.
Not many Elves are seen outside of Telumekoro. It’s a difficult task to get clearance to leave (or escape) the nation as a citizen, and an even more difficult task to survive the hundreds of miles of ice between Telumekoro and the nearest unfrozen port city.
